Good post. It's hard to say what the ultimate fallout of this war is going to be, but it will be significant. It marks a new chapter in collapse. I read there could be an additional 45 million people at risk of starvation in the next year alone.
The forced austerity of this war will likely reduce oil demand which is currently flat. This will extend the life of this deadly resource, but it all depends on EROI. The most expert I read in the industry can't put an exact date on when pumping oil will be economically unviable, but I believe the window to be 30 to 50 years.
The 8 billion of us on the planet were made possible by oil. A horrifying population crash is inevitable. This WILL be a low energy world one way or another. Without diesel there can be no electrification of the economy. It's remarkable how few see this obvious Catch-22.

The fundamental issue is whether prospective parents will still choose to bring another innocent life to bear 9 months from now in an increasingly Apocalyptic world, as climate collapse accelerates and mass starvation sets in, due to lack of fertilizer (a fossil fuel product). IF (and it is a big if), humans in some places find ways to survive despite all these interlocking disasters, perhaps they will have learned to value and maintain what is left.
The problem is the 96% of our genome that is the same as the chimpanzee. With only 4% of ourselves having the ability to go beyond instinct, self interest and learning limited to experience, we have the ability to use tools (mental and physical), but lack the ability to fully anticipate the results of our actions. Yes, some humans can and have used that well, hence the miracles of modern medicine as example. But far too often that 4% doesn't control the tendency to fall back on the built-in traits, especially the self-interest ones.

It's hard not to feel like "the end is nigh" is finally coming home to roost, and those who have been ignorant or oblivious to it for so long are now starting to see the impacts first hand.
